Interactive Brokers Launches Registered Retirement Income Funds for Canadian Investors

Interactive Brokers has introduced Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIF) for Canadian clients, offering a streamlined retirement drawdown solution.

The new RRIF is available through Interactive Brokers Canada Inc. and allows clients to manage retirement income withdrawals in compliance with government regulations. The solution integrates with the company’s existing trading platforms, including Tax-Free Savings Accounts (TFSA) and First Home Savings Accounts (FHSA).

RRIF accounts enable seamless conversion from existing Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSP) without the need to transfer assets. Investors can access a broad range of products, including stocks, options, bonds, and ETFs, while benefiting from low trading costs and no account maintenance fees.

Advanced tools provided with the RRIF include automated minimum withdrawal calculations and portfolio analytics. Clients can manage multiple registered accounts—RRIF, RRSP, TFSA, and FHSA—from a single interface, with flexible withdrawal options allowing amounts above the minimum when required.

Jean-François Bernier, Managing Director of Interactive Brokers Canada, stated: “The introduction of Registered Retirement Income Funds demonstrates Interactive Brokers’ ongoing dedication to delivering innovative financial solutions for investors in markets around the world. This addition expands the retirement and investment choices available to our Canadian clients and reinforces our commitment to the professional investment adviser channel in Canada.”

A RRIF is mandatory for Canadians converting their RRSPs by age 71 and requires minimum annual withdrawals based on the account holder’s or their spouse’s age. The launch positions Interactive Brokers to provide a consolidated, low-cost platform for retirement planning while supporting portfolio diversification and professional advisory services.
